What you'll find out
Your communication style
Analyst, Director, Supporter or Energizer, from where you sit on expressiveness and assertiveness, or Adapter when you are close to the middle on both.
Four communication skills
Listening, clarity, adapting and candor, each scored 0 to 100. Style is a preference; these are what you do with it.
How you talk under pressure
Six workplace situations show which style you reach for when a meeting derails, a stakeholder gets bad news or a colleague disagrees.
“How to communicate with me” card
Three lines for your team, plus how to reach each of the other three styles.
How it works
Part 1
How you come across
16 questions
Pairs of statements about expressiveness and assertiveness. Tap the segment closest to the one that fits you; neither side is better.
Part 2
Communication habits
16 questions
Short statements about listening, clarity, adapting and candor. Half are phrased in reverse, so agreeing with everything does not inflate the result.
Part 3
Situations
6 questions
Realistic workplace moments with four options, one per style. Choose what you would actually do.
The four communication styles
Two axes, four styles, plus the Adapter for people close to the middle on both. Every style has strengths and a way it trips up under pressure.
Analyst
Precise, measured, asks before concluding.
Director
Direct, concise, moves things forward.
Supporter
Warm, attentive, builds agreement.
Energizer
Animated, persuasive, thinks out loud.
Adapter
Close to the middle on both axes; shifts with the situation.

Built on the two-axis model of social style
Decades of work on social and communication styles, from Merrill and Reid onward, land on two dimensions that people reliably notice in each other: how much of your feelings and energy show (expressiveness), and whether you tend to ask or tell (assertiveness). Crossing them gives four styles that most people recognize in themselves and their colleagues.
Style is not skill. Two Directors can be very different communicators depending on how well they listen, how clearly they write and whether they can say the hard thing. That is why the second part scores four skills separately, and why the situations check what you do rather than what you prefer.
Styles describe preferences, not limits. Most people can use every style when it matters; the goal is to notice when a different one would land better.

Questions and answers
How long does the communication style quiz take?
About 7 to 8 minutes for 16 pairs, 16 statements and 6 situations. Your progress is saved in your browser after every answer.
Is this communication styles test free?
Yes. Your style, both axes and your style under pressure are free without signing up. The full report is free too, with a free account so you can keep it.
What are the four communication styles?
Analyst (reserved and asking), Director (reserved and telling), Supporter (expressive and asking) and Energizer (expressive and telling). People close to the middle on both axes are Adapters who shift with the situation.
How is this different from a DISC or personality test?
It measures communication behavior only, on two axes people can observe, and it separates style from skill. It does not claim to describe your whole personality, and you can use every style when the moment calls for it.
Can a team take it together?
Yes. Comparing styles explains most everyday friction, for example a Director who reads a Supporter’s question as indecision. The full report includes how to reach each style.
What happens to my answers?
They stay in your browser while you take the quiz. They are only stored if you create an account and keep your result, and you can delete it at any time.
